Know Your Container: A Quick Glossary
CSC Plate: The “safety passport” of the container. A metal plate on the door proving it has been inspected and is safe for ocean transport.
Payload: The maximum weight of cargo allowed in the container (excluding the container’s own weight).
Tare Weight: The weight of the empty container itself.
Cubic Capacity (CBM): The total volume available for cargo.
High Cube (HC): A container that is 1 foot (30cm) taller than a standard box, allowing for 10-15% more volume.
Twist Locks: The locking mechanism at the corners used to secure containers to ships and trucks.
